ALTON TOWERS – WICKERMAN RIDE LAUNCH

Role: Creative Direction

We have run the vast Merlin account as ECDs for many years, producing ads and content for every international theme park. Here are just a few. The Wickerman was a first for Alton Towers, a wooden rollercoaster that travels through fire.

The story began with a strange group of acolytes living in the woods around the Towers. They worshipped a god of fire. These social films featured the phrase, ‘Be chosen’ written in runic alphabet.

The ride itself was launched on TV and featured other people coming from miles around to worship their new fiery god.

‘Stranger Things’ illustrator Kyle Lambert was commissioned to create the hero image for the ride. We shaped the art direction.

ALTON TOWERS – THE SMILER GAME

Role: Creative Direction

When The Smiler was launched, the queuing time was an issue. We created a downloadable game that helped build your journey to ‘marmalisation’. It quickly hit number one in the download charts.

This was the trailer.

The game also featured some pretty hefty AR for the time.

ALTON TOWERS – CBEEBIES HOTEL

Role: Creative Direction

We helped the theme park move from being seen as a day out to becoming a ‘go to’ for short breaks, thanks to our launch of their themed hotels. The CBeebies Hotel was a huge hit with families.

ALTON TOWERS – ENCHANTED VILLAGE

Role: Creative Direction

This was a fantastical new forest dwelling guaranteed to have a weird and wonderful effect on guests. The TV launch shows a family as they experience the enchanted effect for themselves.

ALTON TOWERS – ROLLERCOASTER CAFE

Role: Creative Direction

Yes that’s right. Your food brought to you from the kitchen and around the restaurant on a rollercoaster. I wouldn’t order the soup.

THORPE PARK – DERREN BROWN’S GHOST TRAIN

Role: Creative Direction

Thorpe Park and Derren Brown created a 4D VR ride set on the ‘London Underground’. Our films got complaints and were pulled from TV. The ride was a huge success and Derren helped us stop people hitting that skip button.

THORPE PARK – WALKING DEAD ‘THE RIDE’

Role: Creative Direction

Thorpe Park is famous with teenagers for thrill rides and has to keep up with an ‘unscareable’ audience. So they teamed up with the hit US TV show and we created creepy episodic content and a lot of hype.

A concept for a decaying poster. And some 6 sheets.

CHESSINGTON WORLD OF ADVENTURE – SPA HOTEL

Role: Creative Direction

Chessington World of Adventure is a family safari park with its own hotel. We used our furry friends to tell people about the spa.

WARWICK CASTLE – BIRD OF PREY SHOW

Role: Creative Direction

Warwick Castle had the biggest bird of prey show in the UK. This black cab gave us loads of coverage.

HEIDE PARK – GHOSTBUSTERS RIDE

Role: Creative Direction

Heide Park is one of Germany’s biggest theme parks. And when they needed to launch their latest Ghostbusters themed ride – who were they gonna call? Do I really need to answer that…
